Ain't no Mountain High Enough
22 May 2008
The Kilimanjaro Challenge team from disability charity Enham, successfully climbed to the top of Mt Snowdon as part of their training schedule in preparation for the big climb up Mount Kilimanjaro in July.
The UK’s first mixed ability team scaled Snowdon in the buddy pairs that will make their climb of Kilimanjaro so unique. Located in Snowdonia National Park, Snowden is 1,085 metres above sea level and has one of the wettest climates in Great Britain, but the Enham team trekked up the mountain in good weather and enjoyed glorious views from the top.
Alex Adams and James Smith are residents at Enham Alamein and are amongst the disabled walkers taking part in the challenge. They both had a hugely successful climb and are really looking forward to the challenge ahead. Alex has joined the Andover Ramblers and James can be seen most evenings walking out as far as Shipton Bellinger in his efforts to be fit for the big climb.
Enham staff members, Jane McFarlane and Pauline Griffin from Andover are also part of the team. Pauline said that “Reaching the top of Snowdon was absolutely amazing“but Jane added “I found this experience to be quite an eye opener, especially when you realise that we have an even bigger challenge with Kilimanjaro!”
Another team member, Sheila Oldacre of Abbotts Ann said “It’s an exhilarating feeling when you get to the top! We are all fired up now for the big challenge.”
The Kilimanjaro Climb takes place in Tanzania in July 2008. All the proceeds from the Challenge are going to support the valuable work that Enham does.
