The Last Supper : Enham's The Spaced Out Theatre Company deliver another top class performance

8 October 2009

On the evenings of 1st and 2nd of October, the Shoosmith Centre at Enham was the venue for another entertaining show by drama clients from the Spaced Out Theatre Company at Enham: murder-mystery The Last Supper.

The Last Supper is the story of a wealthy banker, Lord Cashstrap, who is now struggling under the recession but is doing his best to hide his money troubles from his new young wife Lady Samantha. In an effort to put on a brave face he decides to throw a dinner party for his friends, to celebrate their first wedding anniversary.   One of the guests, the gardener Doug Flowers, is murdered during the dinner party. We learn of his affair with Lady Samantha and his unpopularity with many of the other guests.   The final scene is at Doug's funeral and it reveals a twist as the truth is finally exposed. (It was Lord Cashstrap himself who tricked Hobbes the Butler into carrying out the murder.)

The storyline and characters were devised by the Spaced Out Theatre Company during their weekly sessions and adapted into a script by their Arts and Drama Tutor Roma Nichol, who was also producer and director.

“During the interval, members of the audience were invited to cast a vote for the character they thought was guilty to win a prize at the end. Only a handful of audience members guessed the murderer correctly as we built in a lot of twists and turns” said Roma. She added:  “I am so pleased with the progress that the group has made over the last few months, which has helped develop their creative skills and communication.  They have clearly enjoyed being involved and should be proud of their achievement.”

Roma would like to thank the following people: Karina Phillips for the lighting, Reverend Tom Wharton (St.Georges the Alamein Church) for providing a very atmospheric musical score on the cello, volunteer Mark Locke, enabler Marta Clarke and Matthew Puffett for being stage manager and producing the show’s programme.
