Minister for Disability endorses "Does He Take Sugar?"

Enham is pleased to announce that Jonathan Shaw, Minister for Disability, has given us his endorsement of Enham’s “Does He Take Sugar?” Disability Awareness DVD and Training Resource Pack. Aimed at challenging negative attitudes towards disability, the pack has been devised, performed and produced by disabled adults of the Spaced Out Theatre Company in partnership with Enham:
“As Minister for Disabled People, I am pleased to endorse, “Does He Take Sugar?”, a disability awareness training resource pack which offers a learning perspective from the disabled person’s point of view and is aimed at people in the workplace, school or college.”
"The Spaced Out Theatre Company demonstrates in the DVD that disabled people themselves identify ignorance, a lack of awareness and a fear of difference as the key drivers of prejudice, leading to negative assumptions being made about disabled peoples’ abilities. Training resources like “Does He Take Sugar?” are important in overcoming negative attitudes towards disabled people.”
Enham would like to thank Mr Shaw for his endorsement.

"Does He Take Sugar?" is a training resource for workplaces, schools, and colleges, designed for use in disability awareness training sessions and citizenship classes.
Drawing on their own experiences members of the Spaced Out Theatre Company aimed to challenge negative attitudes surrounding disability. The film was adapted from an original play which was performed on tour in theatres, schools, and other local organisations.
Topics covered within the film include; attitudes that disabled people encounter in their everyday lives, epilepsy, visual impairment, access into buildings, and communication.
The accompanying book guides the teacher/trainer through a series of suggestions from group discussion following the film, scenarios to explore, practical exercises as well as ideas for follow up work.
