Enham Artists Visit Pallant House Gallery in Chichester
20 October 2009
Four artists from Enham went to the Pallant House Gallery in Chichester on Sunday 18th October to see their work exhibited in this renowned art space.
Patrick Baker was chosen from a large number of entries to have his work hung on the wall as part of the "Outside In" exhibition, which was set up to highlight work created by artists who are marginalised in some way, either from having a disability, or by working outside conventional art norms. Patrick's watercolour pencil work after Lowry's "Stockport Viaduct" caught the eye of the judges, who were impressed with it's colour and style.
Three other artists from Enham were chosen to have their work displayed on a screen as part of the exhibition. Denise Starr, Matt Spellacy, and Martin Skidmore each submitted original artwork ranging from portrait to sculpture to intricately penned abstract design.
All artists have been featured on the Pallant House Gallery website under the Outside In Gallery pages.
Roma Nichol, Arts and Drama Tutor at Enham said "The visiting artists enjoyed the exhibition enormously and it gave everyone real food for thought and a lot of inspiration for the future. A lot of the work submitted was emotional and reflective of the artists' life and experiences. It was amazing to see the different styles of each contributor and the meaning and thought that had gone into their work."
The group then enjoyed a tour around the rest of the gallery taking in works by a wide range of famous artists from Peter Blake (Sgt Pepper's Album Cover creator), to Picasso, Dali, and Graham Sutherland. The Gallery covered a range of genres including Modern Art, Surrealism, Post-Impressionism, work by The Scottish Colourists and a Historical Collection.
The Outside In Exhibition is to be toured to other venues in the coming months including Salisbury Arts Centre.
