Christmas Carol Concert
2 December 2009
A Christmas Concert took place at Enham’s Shoosmith Centre on 25th November with performers from Enham together with a Vocal Quartet headed by renowned musician and conductor John Lubbock.
John, who has his own Orchestra, Orchestra of St.John’s, is no stranger to Enham and first worked with Enham’s clients back in December of last year. Since 2002 John Lubbock has been staging interactive concerts for people with autism with his charity "Music for Autism" and his main aim is to make music accessible to those who might otherwise have had little or no musical experience and he himself has an autistic son.
John runs a morning workshop with Enham’s disabled clients with the aim of delivering a concert the same afternoon. Both clients and John alike have been so inspired by their time spent together, this is now third such event this year.
Roma Nichol, Arts and Drama Tutor at Enham said “Through these workshops everyone has developed such a taste for music and had such fun. It has taken tremendous courage for some of our clients to sing solo in front of an audience and John has helped to bring out the musical talents in our clients and encouraged them to sing. We are extremely grateful to John and the others members of his quartet for giving us yet another really enjoyable day”
John Lubbock said “It’s just wonderful working with Enham’s performers, they have so much enthusiasm and I can see they clearly enjoy the workshops and getting involved in the music. I have been here several times now -this is why I keep coming back.”
The concert also included a fun version of “We wish you a Merry Christmas” by the Quartet and the audience joined in many of the carols including the finale carol “O Come all ye Faithful.”
