Enham's Background and History
Since 1918, Enham has responded to the changing needs of disabled people.
Founded as a rehabilitation centre for ex-servicemen returning from the First World War, Enham has helped disabled people find new lives, homes and employment in unique and innovative ways for nearly 90 years.

Renamed Enham Alamein following a gift from the Egyptian nation in gratitude for the Allied victory in the Battle of Alamein, Enham has helped those vulnerable members of society who need that extra assistance to succeed in their chosen field. http://www.britishegyptiansociety.org.uk
In 1995 Enham embarked on an innovative concept in residential care. Self-contained, fully equipped studio apartments replaced the former institutional single-room accommodation. Enham clients now have the choice to be more independent and take responsibility for their own homes, whilst still receiving Enham's care and support.
The care home is a first stepping-stone in the pathway from a care home environment to life in the community of choice. Our acclaimed Development Programme, introduced in year 2000, is individually designed to develop the confidence and skills each person needs to progress into the form of living and employment that matches their goals.
Enham’s vision is a society where disabled people are valued as individuals and are enabled to achieve their full potential. Enham has adopted a person-centred approach, which means that the disabled person’s goals and wishes are at the heart of our services. This approach is further underlined in our 2005 strategy, which emphasises equality of opportunity, increased access to employment and independence, and improved quality of life.
From its inception, Enham has benefited from both royal patronage and government support. Many members of the royal family, beginning with King George V, Queen Mary and the Duke of York, have been Patrons. Other visitors include HRH the Prince of Wales; HRH The Princess Royal, Princess Alice; HRH Princess Alexandra. Enham’s current patron is HRH the Duchess of Gloucester, who visited most recently in 2003 to open Elizabeth House, the latest of the three modern care homes at Enham Alamein.
