Housing Association
Enham is a registered social landlord (RSL), providing 193 homes for more than 320 tenants in the village of Enham Alamein. Approximately 50% of its properties are occupied by a person, who has a disability.
Accommodation varies with houses, flats and bungalows providing choice together with progressive levels of independence to reflect the individual needs of our tenants.
Most of the housing was built between 1920 and 1976, but 7 wheelchair standard bungalows were completed in 1991 and 23 new homes, a mix of houses, bungalows and flats, in 2003/4. Adaptations may be carried out, where practicable, to enable tenants to remain in their homes rather than transfer to another property; rolling programmes of modernisation and external decoration ensure that our properties are well maintained and are a source of pride and independence.
The priority for housing is disability, but those in severe housing need who would benefit from what Enham has to offer will also be considered.
Housing Applications
Applicants are required to complete an application form, which is considered at the monthly meeting of the Estates Committee. If the application fits the criteria laid down by the association, it will be accepted on to the Waiting List.
Accommodation is allocated soon after it becomes available for letting. In some cases repairs and redecoration may be necessary before a new tenant can move in. Most of the stock in the village is general needs housing, but there are also 33 wheelchair accessible bungalows.
Applicants are offered the property which the Estates Committee believes is best
suited to their needs. However, applicants may refuse an offer, which does not prejudice their chances of being housed at Enham, nor does it preclude their being offered another property when one becomes available.
Enham places the community’s needs at the heart of its service provision and encourages the involvement of the village’s Tenants’ Association and Parish Council in its decision making. Every tenant automatically becomes a member of the Tenants’ Association when they move into their property. The Association holds an AGM every year at which officers are elected. Meetings are held monthly in the Village Shop Tearooms on the third Wednesday of the month and new committee members are usually eagerly sought.
Village Life
The village of Enham Alamein has a village shop and post office, a petrol station and garage, a doctor’s surgery and a private members’ club. There is also a sports ground with two football pitches and a village hall available for hire for weddings and parties. The thriving market town of Andover is just over 2 miles away and connected by a local bus service.
