Route to Independence
Route to Independence (R2I) is a dynamic and forward-looking programme where you will be supported to fulfil your potential. R2I will enable you to build skills, overcome barriers and ensure you are confident to making and taking life opportunities.
It's all about you
R2I has over 20 learning units (modules) designed jointly with people like you, to meet your needs to live happy and fulfilled lives. R2I will also assist you to move towards paid employment and independent living if that is your goal
The programme is designed to fit in with your life and any existing commitments or interests you may have, whether they be sport, music, art or social!
Route to Independence is also about choice and having fun. You can take a 'pick and mix' approach – choosing a personal selection of courses or projects from our varied programme. Or we can offer a bespoke programme by working with you in your own locality community, by matching you with a key support worker, to help you get connected to activities that you want to get involved with locally.
We have experience in helping people face real life situations, such as:
|
independent living |
communication |
travel |
|
moving onto continuing education |
supervising people |
recruiting and training |
| taking on Personal Assistants |
mixing with people |
rights and responsibilities |
|
relationships
|
work
|
decision making
|
(These can be the basis of a local programme in your area specifically for you and / or with a group of others who want to take part in the same activities.)
Activities and Groups
We provide a range of fun activities and exciting projects to help you develop skills and meet other people.
Each unit on the Route to Independence programme is delivered by skilled, creative staff who have experience communicating with a wide variety of people with both physical and learning disabilities.
Our approach is to make and take integrated and modern opportunities, which relate to what is going on around you and fits in with your life. The programme is continually evolving to meet individual changing needs.
Some of the opportunities we offer are the start of Social Enterprises so they are led by you and are also designed to generate actual income which the charity can use to assist other disabled people. We also encourage you to get involved in our R2I Forum, so that your ideas can be fed back .
Who is eligible for the Route 2 Independence Programme?
You must have a disability or additional needs and be at least 18 years of age.
"This programme is just what I'm seeking for my eighteen year old son. Although he has communication difficulties, he is so keen to develop skills to be more involved with the local community." Parent, Hampshire
You can be referred by professionals, such as your doctor or Adult Services, or you can self-refer. For a taster session, just come along to one of our regular Open Days. Alternatively, we can send you an information pack which will give you details of what we do and how we can help.
How will you get the right support?
You will have the opportunity to tell us what you want from the R2I programme, so that together, we can agree your support needs and an action plan (which will be regularly reviewed).
