Roderick Chamberlain Enham's Chairman

Message from Rod Chamberlain - Enham's Chairman

With 90 years of heritage and experience to draw upon, Enham continues to seek fresh approaches and creative solutions to the constant search for greater independence for disabled people.

Our services cover living arrangements, employment options, learning and training opportunities and choices for spending free time.   These services mirror the aspiration and policy of government, aiming to bring greater independence to disabled people by giving them increasing control over their own lives, managing their own finances and lifestyles.

We are already building eagerly for our centenary in 2019: building physically – we have now submitted our planning application with overarching proposals for the look and feel of Enham Alamein village for decades to come;  building operationally – as we develop and introduce new solutions to disabled people’s individual requirements; and building behaviourally -  as we adjust our attitudes and instincts to understand what it really means to put our clients at the centre of all our thoughts and activity.

As a framework for our plans going forward, Enham has encapsulated the organisation's aims into six Impact Statements designed to provide a blueprint for our objectives and a way to measure the impact of our work and achievements. These are:

  • Breaking down Barriers - ensuring that disability is not a barrier to gaining work or leading an independent life
  • Improving Quality of Life - Enham transforms people's lives, leading to more fulfilment
  • Facilitating Employment - ensuring those in most need don’t get left behind
  • Building Skills to succeed - ensuring everyone has the best chance of success and opportunity
  • Greater Voice, Control & Independence - ensuring that we deliver what people want
  • Partnership Working - delivering a joined up and integrated service and sharing best practice

You will be able to read more about our Impact Statements, and the results we deliver, on our website over the coming year.  In the meantime I invite you to share our journey and monitor our progress, or indeed to help us on our way by supporting our fundraising and volunteering efforts.  Each and every effort plays a significant part in realising our vision to be a charity that really does bring about positive change for disabled people.
