Work Development and Placement

There are three areas within the Work Development section, which provide a wide range of challenges to help you as clients develop the work experience and skills to take advantage of a real work placement within the business community. These are:

The Alamein Workshop

The Alamein Workshop is an ISO9002 accredited packaging company providing commercial services to local and national companies. Here clients are exposed to the disciplines they would encounter on community placements, albeit within a supported environment, developing teamwork, organisational, problem-solving and personal communication skills.

The Audubon Centre

Within the Audubon Centre horticultural skills and knowledge are developed in this facility, which is attached to a mainstream nursery. Other activities include field trips to famous gardens, competition entries and the opportunity to develop skills in Maths, Art, Nutrition, Social Studies, Language, Science and Physical Education through a variety of gardening projects.

Business Enterprise

On the Business Enterprise programme, our clients learn to work as part of a team. Many imaginative gift and stationery items are made by the client groups, from embroidered greetings cards to jewellery items. They learn how to identify markets for their items, which are then sold at local events with the money raised re-invested in their businesses.

Voluntary Work Placements

The result of the personal and work development activities can be a move into a voluntary Work Placement within the local community. The placements will normally start at a few hours or half a day, leading towards a greater period, depending on individual circumstances. Local transport is used where possible and appropriate, otherwise Enham transport will be provided within its service.
